What I check on this site
I cover services that call real landlines and mobiles from a browser tab, and app-to-app services such as WhatsApp and Google Meet for comparison. For every service I look at the same points:
- who can sign up, from which countries, and whether sign-up needs a phone number or an ID check;
- per-minute rates to the US, the UK, India and Mexico, landline and mobile, plus the minimum top-up;
- whether there is a free tier and what limits it sets;
- which browsers the web client supports;
- caller ID, incoming numbers and whether emergency calls work.
How I date prices and limits
Each price or limit carries a numbered citation, and the Sources list at the foot of the page shows the date I checked it. Every fact in this edition was checked on . Where a price is converted into a local currency, it uses that day's exchange rate, and hovering over it shows the operator's original amount.
When an official page does not answer a question, I mark the fact as unverified instead of guessing; when two official pages disagree, I report both. When I correct something, I fix it on every page where it appears and add a dated line to the corrections log.
For this edition I placed no test calls, opened no accounts and bought no credit, so I make no claims about call quality or connection times. Every service is scored with the same published method, and only the home page turns those scores into numbered ranks.
Independence and the sponsor
TwinPhone sponsors this site and is also one of the services I review. Its links are the only ones here that carry tracking parameters; links to every other service go straight to its official site.
I name its weak points as plainly as anyone else's: it has no free tier or trial credit, and emergency numbers cannot be dialled from it[1]. The full arrangement is set out in my sponsor disclosure.
About me
Independent auditor and technical specialist
I am an independent auditor and technical specialist, and I have worked in the field for more than 15 years. I started callfrombrowser.org because the guides I found on calling from a browser still recommended Skype and Google Duo, and almost none of them dated their prices. For every service here I read the official rate cards, help centres and terms, open the web client in a normal browser tab, and write down what I found with the date I checked it. I score services with one published method, I list my sources on every page, and I say plainly where a fact is unverified. TwinPhone sponsors the site; that does not change the scores.
